Digital video industry leaders -- including AMD, Conexant, DIRECTV, TV Guide and TiVo -- find that the Solekai Systems team of expert engineers delivers successful results for a wide range of product development projects.
Under the direction of the silicon vendor, Solekai created a complete set of Linux compatible device drivers for a new set-top-box (STB) chipset that supports MPEG-2 SD, MPEG-2 HD, and MPEG-4 HD. Solekai engineers worked closely with the customer's geographically dispersed engineering department to ensure optimum functionality and performance.
Solekai's customer needed a conditional access (CA) system implementation for a family of set-top-box (STB) designs. The kernel of the CA system had to manage smart card access on multiple STB platforms, produce and manage the decryption keys in a secure fashion, provide IPPV capability, and support modem callback functionality to report IPPV activity. Solekai developed the CA kernel, along with a comprehensive test environment for confirming correct kernel functionality on each platform. Solekai also worked closely with a number of consumer electronics manufacturers to integrate the new kernel into their products and validate CA functionality.
Solekai is engaged in a long term relationship with a major Digital Broadcast Satellite (DBS) provider to design, develop and maintain the certification test suites for licensed set-top-box (STB) developers. For each new broadcast multiplex specification change or enhancement, the Solekai team assists in developing the associated STB functional requirements, updates to the test plan, the detailed test procedures and required test equipment. Solekai also maintains a key regression test facility, where they can continuously test the operational functionality in each new STB or software version.
To meet the requirements of a major consumer electronics manufacturer, Solekai developed a full suite of interface software for a CableCard module within a cable set-top-box (STB). The Solekai team also worked with the manufacturer to move the software efficiently through the complete CableLabs certification process.
Solekai's customer needed a suite of Linux drivers to support the full functionality of their leading edge 10Gb Ethernet switch chipset. The project scope included modifications to the standard Linux TCP/IP protocol stack to manage low speed command and control, while adding support for the TCP/IP Offloading Engine (TOE) at the kernel level to handle the high speed data transfers. The Solekai team worked closely with the customer's engineering groups, most of which were based in Israel.
Solekai's customer needed help with formalization of its Software Quality Assurance (SQA) processes and procedures. The Solekai team worked with the customer’s engineering and quality assurance departments to define new processes and establish new procedures within the development organization. As an integral part of the SQA development process, the Solekai team worked alongside the customer team to help take a 20 person SW project through the entire project lifecycle using the new SQA system.
Solekai's customer had a requirement for the definition of a comprehensive hardware abstraction layer (HAL) within its software architecture that would enable easier porting of the software to new platforms. The Solekai team worked alongside customer engineers to define the requirements of the abstraction layer and then implemented the required software and interface code. To complete the project, the Solekai team modified a set of existing application code to use the API of the new abstraction layer, and tested the newly integrated code base to ensure that it still met overall product specifications. This was the first of several ongoing projects with this customer.
Solekai's customer is a national broadcaster with an extensive video network system that enables a real-time combination of a national broadcast feed with significant localized content for its customers. Their requirement was for a new architecture for the local system equipment that enables frame accurate transitions in the mix between national feed and localized content. The Solekai team took the system requirements and created a cost effective architecture for the next generation broadcast system. The customer has accepted the proposed new architecture and is using Solekai for a full implementation of the new system.
