“Bitstreams” are Solekai-synthesized transport streams used to drive the test hardware that simulates over-the-air signals. They consist of user-defined elementary streams transmitted over a standard modulator and are generally commissioned by the broadcaster for preliminary and final acceptance testing. They are increasingly important as more functionality is being driven by stream data, such as stream events, service information, and private data streams.
Bitstreams are invaluable to STB manufacturers for integration and testing in preparation of certification, black box testing, and white box testing, as well as in the maturation of a product’s code.
Bitstream development is a highly specialized capability requiring a unique set of skills and a detailed knowledge of testing, software development, set-top box design and operation—and the multitude of standards involved (H.264, MPEG-2, MPEG-4).
Many clients rely on Solekai’s bitstreams expertise, for instance, DIRECTV has used Solekai-developed bitstreams to test each new set-top box that has come to market since 2002.
Bitstreams enable accurate and efficient repeat testing scenarios without expensive production broadcast equipment.
